Modest Wedding Gowns Say More While Revealing Less

Finding a dress that has something different is not an easy job - even harder for the modest bride who wants both style and lack of exposure. Few designers offer modest wedding gowns with sleeves, covered backs and raised neck lines. These aren't horrible things, some of the most famous brides wore stunning dresses that didn't leave it all hanging out.

Buy It Or Make It Yourself?

Finding such a gown will take effort and a good search. Unfortunately, many of these dresses also end up making you look boxy - I don't know why that is, but there you have it. That's why I would suggest making one yourself or having an excellent seamstress construct one for you. The price might be a little more, but I think that's the only way to truly get what you want.

Bridal Gown Inspiration

Wedding Gowns Can Be Modest And TastefulFor inspiration for designs look to the movies - Sound of Music comes to mind when I think of a gorgeous, simply elegant gown made of yards of satin. This gown certainly stands the test of time. Long train, long veil, all the classic elements are there. I also love the gown that Audrey Hepburn wears in 'My Fair Lady'. This sheath with pearls would look gorgeous on any slim bride. Add a train and you will wow your groom, not to mention all your guests.

Look at Jaclyn Kennedy on her wedding day, also Princess Grace on hers. Both of these women looked stunning and their gowns still draw admirers today. A great idea for a budding designer is to make a line of gowns that take us back to an era when women were allowed to be women, both elegant and tasteful.

Wearing a gown that has been in the family for years is also an option. Remaking a gown by building up the bodice, or make a satin or lace shrug to go over a more revealing gown could make the best of a not-so-modest dress. I also love the look of a full length lace jacket.

If travel will take you out of the country you might try stores overseas. Many places still respect houses of worship and therefore wedding salons offer more respectable choices. You might ask at the bridal salon if they have ideas about raising neck lines, covering shoulders and bare backs. Some salons that cater to
Observant Jews or Mormons' will have a larger selection of modest gowns.

Outside The Bridal Salons

You might also try to find vintage or antique shops. Simple, elegant styles are timeless. Advertising might bring in some hopeful choices too. They say that fashion goes in cycles and that what is old will come around again... I truly hope so. Also remember that as the bride you may wear what you choose. If you've always wanted big puff sleeves, wear it. Something different is always more enjoyable than seeing the same old thing wedding after wedding, bride after bride. Due to shows on tv we constantly see the same things and quickly grow tired of it, so going with something different and totally unexpected will be both welcome and refreshing.

Perhaps more bridal salons will start to carry a wider variety of gowns, but until then keep looking and use some creativity and you will find something that is modest, elegant, tasteful much more honorable. .
